THE TWIN CITIES PUPPETEERS OCTOBER 2000 MEETING
The program in October was presented by Kurt Hunter and was a clear and solid introduction to the world of marionettes, aimed especially at those who have never dared to mess with strings.
Kurt Hunter with one of his very early marionettes, from the days of his youth when the obsession began. Kurt with a fairly new marionette. If this one looks like he doesn't have a nose, well, he does, but it's missing. Finding the missing nose is what the number is all about. When the nose is discovered, magnets inside the nose and the head allow the shiny red nose to snap exactly and firmly into position.
Nancy Busse and Ione DeLong playing with some of the puppets Kurt Hunter brought along for his demonstration/workshop. Ione is operating "Corry", so called because he's made of corrugated cardboard. Edna and Bill Garrison presiding over the refreshments. Year after year they have been supervising this part of our monthly gathering. They alway make an attractive layout, often incorporating a theme in keeping with the season. This one was Halloween.
...and then came Show and Tell ....
Chris Griffith and two of the hand puppets created for his new Punch and Judy show, Mr. Punch Runs for President. Chris is part of the Galumph Performance Troupe, and he and his partner, Shari Aronson, have their own company called Circus Minimus. Diane Rains with one of her new acquistions. Ebay, Ebay, makes it happen.
Vicky Kline with one of Karen Backes' pig puppets. In the center is new member Helga Burroughs; Karen holds one of Vicky's stuffed animal adaptations.
Wayne Krefting with a new character, the Troll from "Billy Goats Gruff", his tabletop show. The head is sculptured with the new wonder material, "Model Magic."
Wonder: some of us think it's wonderful. Others wonder why we like it so much.
Vicky Kline and Karen Backes with puppets--the big one is Karen's new character, and the conductor is one that Vicky bought.
