September 2000 |
||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The basic program for the September meeting was a sort of "What I did on my summer vacation theme." Or--what are you working on now?
Several members brought stuff to show and discuss. At the left, Tom Davis with a Civil War puppet that he created for one of the open air presentations he's been doing around the Twin Cities, and I believe also in parts of Illinois. He also demonstrated the stage he built to isolate himself from the crowds. |

| With the help of two people new to the group, Karen Backes showed some of her puppets. She used them to demonstrate how her work has changed and progressed over the years.
Far left is Pat Ramberg, holding a 25 year old puppet, Barney Birdbrain. To the right of Karen is Melanie Edwardsen, who, by the end of the meeting, had whipped out her checkbook and become a member. |

| Melanie Edwardsen's mother-in-law, who definitely has a name but we didn't get it written down, is helping Laura Krentz demonstrate some of the puppets that belong to the guild. They're available for loan to schools, libraries and other groups.
They are just four of the several hundred we inherited upon the passing of Jean Tatting within this last year. |

| Becky Brom on the left: She had just come from doing a show, in which she dresses as a fairy godmother. She said children ask her if this is her wedding dress.
So from now on, we will only be able to think of it as: Becky's wedding dress. |

| Paul Eide and two grizzled puppets. Paul is in the center. The one on the right is a replica, complete with suspenders, created for roasting about a year ago. The other puppet is a king. And who is the king supposed to be? | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Back to the program:
Wayne Krefting showed some of the puppets he was creating for a tabletop show that he's developing, one based on a Norwegian folk tale. The character is a troll. Made of Model Magic.. And the crowd went wild!!! |

| Emily Noyed brought her doll to the meeting. A harmless enough looking doll when you're staring right at it, but out of the corner of your eye, it looks real. Spooky real. |

| And finally, Jean McCarthy behind the lunch counter, presiding over the food she had prepared, and keeping a watchful eye on Cynthia Furnas, Melanie Edwardsen, and Becky Brom.
I don't know. Maybe they were just talking. |
